Camden Library lists upcoming events

Here are some of the upcoming events at the Camden (main) branch of the Kershaw County Library. All branches of the library will be closed for Labor Day, Sept. 7.

• Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2 p.m. -- Credo Reference for Homeschooling. Provided by Discus, it has more than 800 full-text online e-books for South Carolinians. The 45-minute webinar will provide an online tour of the best student-friendly content in the collection and demonstrate how to access it from home using a library card. It will highlight content appropriate for ages 9 to 17.

• Wednesday, Sept. 2, 4 p.m. -- Club Book. Join the library for a girl’s book club for ages 8 to 12. Please register.

• Thursday, Sept. 3, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. -- Yarn Group. Local yarn enthusiasts, knitters and crocheters are invited to bring their current projects to meet and socialize. All levels welcome from beginners to experts. This is not a class, although some basic help may be available from other members.

• Friday, Sept. 4, 10:30 a.m. to noon -- Enjoying the Computer. Learn the parts of a computer, how to use a mouse and a little terminology. The class is for those who have never used a computer before. Registration required.

• Saturday, Sept. 5, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 17, 3 p.m. -- Financial Basics. Joint Kathryn Hauer of WilsonDavid for this workshop. Topics will include budgeting, saving, investing, retirement, Social Security, paying for college and more.

• Saturday, Sept. 5, 11:30 a.m.; Thursday, Sept. 17, 4:30 p.m. -- Basic Investing. Hauer will give tips on how to begin investing for the future.

• Tuesday, Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 4 p.m. -- Club AC1. Arts and crafts for ages 4 to 7. Please register.

• Thursday, Sept. 10, 2:30 to 4 p.m. -- Enjoying the Internet. Learn the basic of browsers, search engines and knowing good information from bad. Registration required.

• Saturday, Sept. 12, 5:30 p.m. -- Movie Night: “Matilda” (PG). Celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday with the showing of the movie, based on his classic novel.

• Tuesday, Sept. 15, 5:30 to 7 p.m. -- Final Chat: Discussing End-of-Life Decisions. Heather Leigh of Greenhaven Memorial Gardens will present this factual and informal discussion to encourage conversation and decision making on funeral and cemetery planning and other topics.

• Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. -- Camden Book Club. This month’s selection is “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce. New members welcome.

• Saturday, Sept. 19, 10:30 a.m. to noon -- Become a Better Gardener: Seed Collecting and Winter Propagating. Join the Master Gardeners for a workshop on fall and winter garden projects.

• Saturday, Sept. 19, 2:30 to 4 p.m. -- Excel for New Users. This class is for those who have never used Microsoft Excel and will cover basic information for using a spreadsheet simple formulas. “Enjoying Word” is required before this class. Registration required.

• Tuesday, Sept. 22, 10:30 a.m. to noon -- Enjoying Word. Learn the basics of using a word processing program. Registration required.

• Wednesday, Sept. 30, 4 p.m. -- Club LEGO. For ages 8 to 12. Registration required.
