Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who allege that they have been discriminated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in past decades can file such claims until March 25, 2013. The claims period began Sept. 24. According to a press release forwarded by the Kershaw Conservation District, the process offers a voluntary alternative to litigation for each Hispanic or female farmer and rancher who can prove that the USDA denied their applications for loan or servicing assistance for discriminatory reasons for certain time periods between 1981 and 2000.
