This week is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and is being observed in Kershaw County with a series of local events. Organizers said they hope all residents will participate in at least one event or activity. The events include: • Candlelight Vigil in Hampton Park, Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. -- Bible readings, poetry, music and prayer led by Father John Zimmerman. • Prayer Breakfast at United Way of Kershaw County, Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. -- light breakfast, fellowship, and prayer to end hunger and homelessness. • Community Awareness Luncheon at Food for the Soul, Friday, noon -- the public is invited to enjoy lunch and learn about services to those in need. • Community Food Drive at local grocery stores, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. -- to benefit the county’s food pantries and soup kitchens.
