Swim team registration open

Registration for Swim Team is now underway and will run through May 8. The cost is $70, with a $5 reduction for each additional child in the family. Children ages 4-18 are eligible to sign up for Swim Team. Season Pass members qualify for a $10 reduction per Swim Team member.

Zumba will feel more like a Salsa party than a workout. 

Classes at the Bethune Recreation Building will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. Licensed Zumba instructor Annie Gonzalez will lead the class.  Classes are $25 for 5 classes and one class for free.

Zumba classes in Camden will be held Monday & Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. The class instructor is Brandy Mangum.

The cost is $30 for twice a week for the month and $20 for once a week for the month.  Call 425-6009 for more information.

Lifeguard training

Lifeguard training classes are scheduled to begin Friday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. at the Kershaw County Aquatic Center, 196 Battleship Road, Camden. Classes will continue as follows: Saturday, April 25 will be from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday April 26 will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the course finishing up Monday and Tuesday April 27 and 28 from 4 to 8:30 p.m.  Registration will begin March 16 and continue until the class is full (The first 10 registered will get in the class. After that point, there will be a waiting list made for a possible second class.)

The course fee is $150; this fee includes CPR-PR & First Aid.

To enroll in the Lifeguard Training Course, you must be at least 15 years of age by April 24, 2015. You must bring proof of age at time of registering (Birth Certificate or Driver’s License/Restricted)

In the pre-course session you will be required to pass a swimming skills test.

You must be able to complete all of these skills successfully in order to take the course.

Please check your schedule before registering for this class! Attendance at every session is mandatory and there are no make-up days. Also, once course begins there are no refunds.

Want to get in shape without all the running, jumping and bouncing? Try Tonetics -- a deep-muscle exercise class involving walking, stretching, bar usage and more.

The purpose is to tone and lose inches, while working all major muscle groups to achieve an all-over muscle fitness.

Line dance classes

The chance to learn the Electric Slide and other popular steps is here.

Line dance is a great stress reducer and emotional release as well as good exercise, providing much the same benefits as low-impact aerobics.

Increase energy, improve strength and muscle tone. Age is no factor and you can build your stamina while having fun. Come with a friend or spouse or come alone; you don’t need a partner for line dance.

Beginner Classes are on Mondays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and  6 to 7 p.m. Beginner intermediate classes are on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  All classes are held in the Big Room at the Recreation Department building.  Cost is $4 per person per class.

Senior fitness class

A group exercise class for ages 55 and older provides a fun variety of exercises to improve strength, flexibility, posture and balance, using a chair and a floor mat (optional).

All participants must be ambulatory and able to follow verbal cues in order to safely and effectively perform the exercises. Instructor is Melia Campolong.

The class meets from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Rec Department building.

The cost is $20 per month, and pre-registration is required.
