Registration for a number of fun and exciting summer camps is now underway at the Kershaw County Recreation Department:
Creative Art Camp
Join Derek Napper and assistants for three days of creative fun. Participants will experience a variety of art forms and will be able to take home several pieces of their own artwork. Students will create drawings, paintings, and a variety of craft projects. Materials will be provided. Ages 6 to 12 years old, this coming Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon in the Recreation Department Small Room. $45 per camper.
This camp is for beginners through intermediate players ages 8 and up. Beginners will focus on skill development and work toward game play. Intermediate players will refine their skills and work on more advanced team concepts. Players will be grouped by skill level. Instructing the camp will be Camden High Varsity Coach Paige Wilson with coaching staff and high school players assisting. Camp is this Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon in the Camden High School (CHS) gym, 1022 Ehrenclou Drive. $60 per camper ($5 reduction for each additional child; includes T-shirt)
Learn the fundamentals of golf or improve your skills in this camp instructed by PGA professional Matt McCarley. Beginners through advanced golfers are welcome. Camp, for ages 7 to 17 years old, runs this Monday through Thursday, 8 to 10 a.m. at the Camden Country Club on Knights Hill Road in Camden. Cost is $85 per camper.
Camden High Soccer Camp
Camden High Soccer Camp, instructed by Varsity Girls Coach Aaron Mayes. July 20 - 23 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the CHS track and field facility. For ages 8 to 14; $50 per camper (includes T-shirt). Campers need to bring water bottles, soccer ball, shin guards and cleats.
Lugoff-Elgin Soccer Camp
Lugoff-Elgin Soccer Camp, instructed by Varsity Boys Coach Brian Witt. July 27 - 31 from 9 a.m. to noon, for ages 7 to 14. $60 per camper. Held at the Lugoff-Elgin soccer fields. Campers need to bring water bottles, soccer ball, shin guards and cleats.
Shag lessons start Wednesday. Instructed by Patty and Larry Blackmon. Junior classes, 6 p.m. for ages 16 to 20, four classes, $25 per person. Beginner classes, ages 21 and up, 7 p.m., six classes, $50 per person. Intermediate classes, ages 21 and up, 8 p.m., four classes, $50 per person.
