Register for summer camp fun

Registration for a number of fun and exciting summer camps is now underway at the Kershaw County Recreation Department.

Sports Fun Camp

Boys and girls 6-12 years old can learn basic fundamentals of baseball, soccer, basketball and football in this day camp. They will also play fun games such as kickball, volleyball, Frisbee golf, table tennis, and horseshoes. Skill development, competition, team work and fun are the main objectives. Coach April Garner will instruct the campers. Snacks are provided but camper must bring a bag lunch.

The camp runs Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Recreation Department’s “Big Room.” The cost is $60 per camper, $5 reduction for each additional child. Pre-registration required by May 27.

Lugoff-Elgin Baseball Camp

Beginners through advanced players ages 7-13 are welcome to attend and learn the fundamentals or improve skills. Randy Stokes, Lugoff-Elgin High Varsity Baseball Coach, will teach the camp, with local players assisting. The camp runs June 1 - 3 (Monday through Wednesday), 9 a.m. until noon at the L-EHS baseball field, Hwy, 1, Lugoff. Cost is $45 per camper, with a $5 reduction for each additional child. Pre-registration required by May 27.

Cheerleading Camp

Camden High School Varsity and J.V. Cheerleaders will instruct the camp. Girls ages 4-8 will learn to cheer and girls ages 9-12 will learn to dance. The camp runs June 2-4 (Tuesday through Thursday), 9 a.m. until noon in the Camden High School (CHS) Gym, 1022 Ehrenclou Drive, Camden. Ages 4-12 years old welcome. Cost is $45 per camper and includes T-shirt. Pre-registration required by May 27.

Baseball Camp

Learn the fundamentals of baseball or improve skills in this camp. Daily training sessions include hitting, base running, sliding and all aspects of defense. Campers will get one-on-one instruction. Camden High School Baseball Coach Denny Beckley and high school players will be instructing. The camp runs June 1-5 (Monday through Friday), 9 a.m. until noon at the CHS baseball field, 1022 Ehrenclou Drive, Camden. Campers 6-13 years old welcome. Cost $60 per camper, $10 reduction for two or more children, and includes T-shirt. Pre-registration required by May 27.


Zumba will feel more like a Salsa party than a workout.

Classes at the Bethune Recreation Building will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. Licensed Zumba instructor Annie Gonzalez will lead the class. Classes are $25 for five classes and one class for free.

Zumba classes in Camden will be held Monday and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. The class instructor is Brandy Mangum. The class will be meeting at the Old Armory on West DeKalb Street.

The cost is $30 for twice a week for the month and $20 for once a week for the month. Call 425-6009 for more information.

Senior fitness class

A group exercise class for ages 55 and older provides a fun variety of exercises to improve strength, flexibility, posture and balance, using a chair and a floor mat (optional).

All participants must be ambulatory and able to follow verbal cues in order to safely and effectively perform the exercises. Instructor is Melia Campolong.

The class meets from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Recreation Department building.

The cost is $20 per month, and pre-registration is required.
