Sheriff McCaskill honored
Sheriff McCaskill-award

Retiring Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by Gov. Mark Sanford for his service to the community and South Carolina. He was nominated for the award – the highest civilian honor for community service -- by S.C. Rep. Lester P. Branham, who represents Florence County. The award was presented by McCaskill’s sister, Hope, at the sheriff’s office holiday party.  McCaskill, a life-long Kershaw County resident, joined the sheriff’s office as a deputy in 1979. His first run for the office of sheriff in 1994 was successful, with his assuming the top law enforcement office in January 1995.
