The United Way of Kershaw County recently received a donated van from Lugoff resident Donna Wodarczyk. Wodarczyk donated the van in honor of her late father, Richard Nielsson, who requested that the van be donated to a charity. UWKC president Donny Supplee says that the van will be used to provide transportation to people who need it. Volunteers from the community drive the vans to take people on errands free of charge. “We are serving needy folks so we have to supplement (the costs) through our fundraising. That’s what our campaign is all about,” Supplee said. The donated van also includes a wheelchair lift. “We’ve had some people we’ve had to help physically so this will be real helpful with those who are handicapped,” Supplee said. Supplee also said that the van could also be used by UWKC partner agencies the Kershaw County Board of Disabilities and the Kershaw County Council on Aging.
