The Camden First Community Development Corporation is seeking volunteers interested in helping prepare tax returns under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Volunteers are needed in Camden to help prepare tax returns for people who cannot pay for tax help. Volunteers will prepare basic federal and state tax returns a few hours each week from Feb. 1 through April 18.

Volunteers do not prepare business returns or deal with complicated tax situations.

Training will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 13 and 10 a.m. to noon Jan. by Internal Revenue Service staff at Camden First United Methodist Church, 704 W. DeKalb St., Camden.

The VITA free tax assistance program provided service to more than 400 citizens in Kershaw, Lee, Fairfield, Sumter, Lancaster and Richland counties in 2008 and 2009.

Individuals interested in volunteering or who would like more information about the VITA program should contact Annette Tucker at 432-3101.
