Gwen Stefani was once a Hollaback girl.
Now, she’s more like a hallelujah girl.
In an interview with “Late Night” host Seth Meyers, Stefani told the story of how her latest son, Apollo, was the result of constant praying.
Stefani’s oldest son, Kingston, had prayed for a sibling to play with and enjoy, according to US Magazine.
“‘Dear God, please let my mom have a baby. Please, God! Please let my mom have a baby!’“ Stefani explained, according to US. Stefani said Kingston “has a direct link to God, basically.”
And so it wasn’t too long after Kingston’s constant praying that Stefani announced she was pregnant. She’s now enjoying her new son Apollo, calling him a “miracle” baby because of the faithful intervention.
Stefani wasn’t too interested in having another child, either. With Kingston and Zuma, 6, Stefani said her family was already complete, and she and her husband, Gavin Rossdale, wouldn’t be having another baby.
“I was like, ‘It’s over,’“ she said on “Late Night.” “‘We’re not having any more. This is our family.’“
Stefani is no stranger to religion. Her Catholic background has had a big influence on who she is today. According to The Hollowverse, a website that looks into the religious and faithful beliefs of celebrities, Stefani was often faced with contradictions about how she wanted to live her life and what her faith was teaching her.
“I always had the pressure of ‘You’ve got to be a feminist and you’ve got to hate guys,” she said, according to The Hollowverse. “And you’ve got to cuss and be tough.’ And I was never like that. I grew up, like, a Catholic good girl. Total Brady Bunch family… But I kind of got over that and realized that, yes, I love to dress up and I love to wear makeup and be myself.”
But she hasn’t completely left her faith. Daily Mail reported back in 2013 that Stefani and Rossdale brought their sons Kingston and Zuma to see the Easter bunny, associated with the springtime religious holiday.
Stefani has also endorsed meditation as a way to find peace amid the paparazzi hounding and celebrity trappings that dominate her life.
“Meditation is my thing,” she said, according to Mind Body Green. “But I’m not going to lie: sometimes I go into my closet and lock the door so no one can find me.”
Still, her new son — the miracle baby, Apollo — has his own religious connections, specifically to the Greek and Roman god, who has often been associated with truth, healing music and poetry.
Apollo was the son of Zeus, who ruled over all the Olympians.
Now that story is B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
