"Jurassic World" is already a smash at the box office. In grossing over $200 million dollars just on opening weekend, its clear this movie is popular with almost everyone.

Of course, fans of the original movie, Jurassic Park, are going to head to the theaters, if they havent already. So what about the younger generation? Well, when stores like Target feature a whole new line of toys specifically in honor of the movie, its clear that Jurassic World is also being marketed to children.

Whether you plan on taking your children o the movie or not, here are a few things we think parents should know before they go.

What is it rated?

Jurassic World is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of science-fiction violence and peril. On OK.com, the movie is rated appropriate for ages 13 and up. In comparison to the majority of PG-13 movies, however, Jurassic World is a bit on the tame side. Parents will probably want to at least see the movie first before taking young children to see it.

How scary is it?

Expect some epic and sometimes gruesome dinosaur attacks. Remember the scene from Jurassic Park where the Tyrannosaurus Rex breaks the sunroof above the two children? Most of the movie stays at about that level of scary.

There are quite a few human casualties, but the biggest difference between this movie and its predecessors is the way the dinosaurs fight each other. These scenes become pretty intense and could frighten even some of the more mature audience members.

What else is in it?

Besides the intense sequences of science-fiction violence and peril, parents should be aware of the mild profanity throughout the movie. There are only a handful of mild curse words, but they are still sprinkled throughout.

If you or your children are sensitive to skin, youll be happy to know that Jurassic World steers clear of inappropriate sexual content, with the exception of one obscure innuendo that has already been featured in the trailer.

Is it worth our time?

Overall, Jurassic World is an impressive movie that almost anyone will enjoy. There are quite a few fun references to the previous movies, and the excitement will keep you on the edge of your seat for all 124 minutes. If parents are still worried about taking their children, maybe see this on a date night before hand.
