THE GREAT OUTDOORS At one time or another, most anglers experiment with strange lures. Sometimes it happens when the last of the bait is gone or the final fly breaks off. Other times its out of sheer desperation when nothing else is working. But there typically comes a time when the traditional elements of fishing give way to bizarre tactics.

A new video making the rounds on YouTube proves that candy can actually be a valid option. In the video, two anglers hold a competition at a golf course pond in Maryland. The first angler uses candy, while the second angler uses store-bought lures.

According to the videos description, the men spent three hours doing everything they could to out-fish each other. When the candy-equipped angler ran out of gummy worms, he decided to try some of the Twizzlers hed brought along for a snack.

The licorice proved to be more resilient than the gummy worms, and more importantly, it appealed to the bass in the pond. Believe it or not, the red, waxy candy enticed a strike from a 3-pound bass.

Another popular YouTube video shows an angler having success with a baby duck lure. Its common knowledge that pike and muskie will occasionally snatch a duckling, but this video shows that other species will also target birds.

These videos raise the question: whats the strangest thing youve ever used to catch a fish? Was it a candy bar wrapper? A piece of fettuccini? Let us know in the comments.
