Camden’s Bill Byars -- former school board member, family court judge and currently director of the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) -- has been tapped to become the new head of the S.C. Department of Corrections. Gov.-elect Nikki Haley made the announcement during a press conference Thursday. In an interview Friday, Byars said discussions leading to the announcement began when he first met with Haley in mid-November.
