Matthews, Tucker make final appeals for sheriff

With two weeks to go before the Nov. 2 election, Kershaw County sheriff candidates Jim Matthews (R) and Sammie Tucker Jr. (D) made their final appeals to the public during a forum at Lugoff-Elgin High School. In his opening statement, Matthews said he had visited communities all over Kershaw County and heard them talk primarily about three things: drugs, gangs and alcohol-related (DUI) deaths. “Parents are tired of having drugs shoved in their kids’ faces,” said Matthews, a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent.
