The Celebration of Life Service for Alvin Wayne Hunter, 89, of Camden will be held Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Hermitage Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Dr. Donald West and Rev. Dr. Condy Richardson will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Arise and Build Fund of Hermitage Baptist Church, 814 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Hunter entered Heaven on Thursday, November 4, 2010. Born in Kershaw, SC, Alvin was the son of the late Doc and Ola Hunter. He was a graduate of Mt. Pisgah High School and a World War II Army Veteran, earning the Bronze Star for valor. He was a member of the James Leroy Belk Post 17 of the American Legion. Alvin retired from Hermitage Mill after 39 years service. A member of Hermitage Baptist Church since 1947, Alvin "A.W." was actively involved, having served in numerous leadership capacities. He was especially known for visiting those who were not able to attend services.

Surviving are daughters, Darlene (Eddie) Love of Camden and Cheryl Hunter of Columbia; son, F. Wayne Hunter (Wanda) of Sumter; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Clarice Catoe of Camden and Dorothy Smith of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; and his very dear friend, Pearl Eddings of Camden. Mr. Hunter was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Gardner Hunter; a brother, Jim Hunter and sisters, Colie Hunter and Etta Bowers.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the A. Sam Karesh Long Term Care Center and KershawHealth Hospice.

Alvin will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He loved God, his family, and his country.
