Barbara King Harmon

Barbara King Harmon, 89, of Sylva, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at her home with her family by her side.Born on December 4, 1926 in Winston-Salem, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jeffrey and Elinor King.  She attended UNC Chapel Hill.  She was a member of the Jackson County Council on Aging, and supporter of many wonderful charities.  Barbara K. Harmon had many passions in this world including her love of animals and skill of Bridge, but she was also a talented artist and prolific writer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Harmon Thompson.Surviving is her daughter, Nancy Marguerite Harmon of Sylva, NC; grandchildren, Dorothy “Beronica Lee” Schwenk and her spouse, Chuck, of Dallas, GA, Page Thompson Kardack and her spouse, Brian, of Camden, SC, Aimee Sloan Thompson of Lugoff, SC, and Elinor Marguerite Howard and her partner, Sommer, of Jonesboro, TN; five great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren. No local services will be held. Donations may be made in her honor to either the Jackson County Council on Aging, 100 County Services Park, Sylva, NC 28779, or the Kershaw County Historical Society, 1314 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.
