Ben "Pike" Rost, 69, of Camden, South Carolina and formerly Piopolis passed away at 8:00 A.M. Friday, February 7, 2014 at his home. Visitation for the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
The prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. and the funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, Feb. 14, at St. John Baptist Catholic Church, Piopolis. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro and Military Honors Team, Marion.
Father Slawomir Ptak will officiate the services. Burial will be at the St. John Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Piopolis
Mr. Rost was born May 21, 1944 at Dahlgren, IL to Benjamin E. Rost, Sr. and Apollonia Eva (Zachman) Rost.
He was formerly married to Vivian Ringel, Sept. 1972 in Pekin, IL. Mr. Rost was a machinist and was employed by Plastex of Winnsboro, SC. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Piopolis
Mr. Rost loved fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, bowling, square dancing, and playing washers. He attended school in Hamilton County and was a member of the Class of 1964.
Survivors are a daughter: Michelle Sharples & husband Paul - Camden, SC, two sons: Benjie Rost III & Jimmy Rost - Camden, SC, eleven grandchildren Kayla, Justin, Peyton, Autumn, Benny, Jimmy & Mia Lynn of Camden, SC; Shaona of Vero Beach, FL; Trevor of Lowell, Massachusetts; Brandon of California and Alex of Pekin, IL , two great-grandchildren with one on the way: two sisters: Marian Schuster - Dahlgren and Doris Smith, McLeansboro, one brother: Bill Rost of Belle Prairie, IL and numerous nephews and nieces.
Ben Rost was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Eugene, Richard, Charlie & Jim, and sister Ruth
Memorials can be made to Jimmy Rost for College Funds for grandchildren.
