Funeral services for Betty Hancock Nichols, 81, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church with interment at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery at 1659 Kershaw Hwy., Camden, SC. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Memorials may be made to Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church, 1500 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 or to the charity of ones choice.
Mrs. Nichols was born October 7, 1930 in Camden, SC and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2012. She was a daughter of the late Harmon Hancock and Lutie McCatherine Hancock. She was very active in Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member for fifty years. She belonged to the Jennetta Schwartz Circle, the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Daytime Fellowshippers. She loved serving her church where in 2001, she was honored as Woman of the Year. She enjoyed visiting people, helping all she could and loved participating in her Neighborhood Club.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by her sister, Euenla Sloan of Columbia; daughter, Donna Wadford (John) of Columbia; grandsons, Dr. Gregg Jowers, Jr. (Michelle) and Rev. Jeff Jowers (Lisa); step grandchildren, DeAnne Boswell (Brooks) and Kimberly Wadford; great-grandchildren, Aislyn, Blythe, Kayla Reese Jowers; Hadessah, Nathan and Samuel Jowers; Jackson, McLaughlin Ann, Caed Boswell; and Katerina Wadford. She was predeceased by her husband, Chauncey “Nick” Nichols; son, Timothy Ray Nichols and brother, Harmon Hancock, Jr.
