Bruce Smith, formerly of Camden, went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2016.

A time of visitation will be held for two hours on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 (time TBD) in the Social Hall at Abilene Baptist Church, 3917 Washington Road, Martinez, Georgia, preceding the Memorial Service. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be concluded at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith was married for 67 years to Mildred Spears. He was born on January 11, 1918, a son of the late Walter and Sallie Huggins Smith of Lee County, South Carolina. He proudly served his country during WWII as part of the 178th Field Artillery Battalion, Company C, fighting in North Africa and Italy. He was a dedicated Amoco dealer for some 40 years and was active in his church; for some 22 years he served as a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW and served as the Commander of VFW Post 5928. He loved God and country, and his family and church.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Spears Smith and daughters: Linda Atkinson (James); Martha Tingen (Jim). Other survivors include 8 grandchildren: Jonathan Robinson (Jennifer); Caroline Foster (Jason); Greg Atkinson (Anitra); Jeffrey Atkinson (Faith); Michelle McLaughlin (Ben); Bryan Atkinson (Erica); Nathan Tingen (Megan); Joseph Tingen (Lindsey): 13 great grandchildren; McLean, Lucy & Mary Lancaster Robinson; Abby and Sarah Atkinson; Riley and MacKenzie Atkinson; Hunter and Emma Kate McLaughlin; Claire and Seth Atkinson, Will and Andrew Foster; and sisters Aileen Vinson, Luene Cyburn, and Catherine Ann Hinson. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Lucius, Wilbur, and Delano and sisters, Mamie Knotts, Beulah Hinson and Mattie Fay, and his daughter, Mickey Smith Litchfield 

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
