A funeral service to honor the life of Charlie Burris "Buck" Mathis, Jr., 83, of Camden, SC, will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Buck’s memory to the American Lung Association of SC, 1817 Gadson St., Columbia, SC 29201 or the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbot Drive, Cayce, SC 29033.
Charlie B. Mathis, Jr., widower of Phyllis McLain Mathis, died Monday, December 29, 2014. He was born in Bishopville, SC, the son of the late Charlie B. "Bubba" Mathis and Vernie Barnes Mathis. He was a US Army Korean War Era Veteran and retired after 32 years as a production supervisor at DuPont, working at the Savannah River Plant and The May Plant. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and was especially proud of his grandsons, Jeff and Joseph. Buck was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Camden Country Club. He enjoyed being at the beach with family and friends and shag dancing with his wife. Buck was an outgoing person who never met a stranger.
Buck is survived by his sons, Richard C. Mathis (Jeanette) of Columbia, SC and Terry Mathis of Camden, SC; grandchildren, Jeff Mathis (Blair) and Joseph Mathis; great-grandchildren, Gracie Mathis and Charles "Buck" Mathis.
