A funeral service honoring the life of Claude Edward Campbell, 85, of Elgin, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Miles, Rev. George Cashwell, and Rev. Jimmy Floyd will officiate. The family will receive friends today, February 20, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mr. Campbell’s memory to Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2290 Heath Pond Road, Elgin, SC 29045.
Mr. Campbell, the son of the late Iola Goff Campbell and Thomas Edward Campbell, was born in Blaney, SC. He was the owner-operator of T.E. Campbell and Son Grocery, in Elgin, for 61 years. In addition to operating T.E. Campbell and Son, he was a significant land developer in Kershaw and surrounding counties. Through his generous spirit, he helped countless individuals, families, and businesses throughout the years. Mr. Campbell served in the US Army, and was a member of Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his children, Sonja C. Parker (Tony), of Columbia, Barry C. Campbell (Wendy), of Lugoff, Lachandra Wood (Avius), of Columbia, John Campbell (Ashley), of Blythewood, Cole Campbell, of Charleston, and Tamara Campbell, of Elgin; grandchildren, Elliott Campbell, Wyatt Campbell, Blease Campbell, Toni Parker, and Zachary Campbell; sister,
Vivian Gardner (Harvey), of Elgin, and brothers Thomas C. Campbell (Hazel) of Aiken, and Charles Campbell (Maxine), of Elgin, and sister-in-law, Frances Campbell of Columbia. He was predeceased by brother, Colbert Campbell.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Providence Hospital for their care during his hospitalizations, and wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at NHC Parklane, and Ms. Pat Downing for their loving care throughout his stay.
