Funeral services to celebrate the life of Claude Edward Hancock, 80, of Camden will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Camden with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Hancock, Rev. Brent Kendall and Rev. Charles Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be sent in Mr. Hancock’s memory to First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Mr. Hancock died Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Born in Anderson, SC., he was the son of the late Claude B. Hancock and Mamie Stamps Hancock. He was a US Army veteran having served in the Korean War. Mr. Hancock was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden. He loved Clemson football, Atlanta Braves baseball and he enjoyed gardening. Mr. Hancock was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After he retired from the textile business he was employed with Alan’s Market.
Surviving are his wife of 59 1/2 years, Virginia Cooley Hancock; sons, Rev. Bruce Hancock and his wife Pat of Camden and Tony Hancock and his wife Ellen of Lugoff; grandchildren, Meredith Hancock-Coe and her husband Travis Coe, Erica Redfearn and her husband Joe, Mary Kathryn Hancock; great-grandchildren, Noah and Miles Redfearn; sister, Virginia Clark.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
