Coleman B. Lawson, 73, of Stroud Township, PA, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 14, at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, PA. He was the husband of Mary Catherine Hancock.

Born on May 4, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Iva (Jones) Lawson of Camden, SC, and the late Coleman Blease Lawson also of Camden, SC. He lived locally in Stroudsburg for the past 11 years, having moved from Exton, PA.

Coleman was a founding member of the Friends of Cherry Valley and was deeply committed to the conservation of the flora and fauna of Cherry Valley where he lived. He was also committed to the establishment of the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Monica Lawson, Veronica Lawson, Roderick Lawson and Dennis Lawson, and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Giammatteo.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, at Gaines Baptist Church, Gaines – Good Hope Church Road, Camden, SC, 29020.
