James Darrell Stephens, age 77, of Lamar, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at KershawHealth Center. Funeral services will be Friday, April 1, 2011 in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home in LAMAR with interment in Lamar Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Born January 19, 1934 in Darlington County, he was the son of the late J.C. and Nannie Mae Chandler Stephens. Darrell was co-founder of Christian Pathway Starting Steps School and was affectionately known as "Uncle Darrell" to many children in Lamar. He was an active member of Christian Pathway and also served as the church secretary and treasurer. Darrell retired from DuPont as maintenance supervisor.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Dell Amerson Stephens, three sons: Michael (Jackie) Stephens, Donald (Kellie) Stephens, Ronald (Wendy) Stephens, all of Lamar, six grandchildren: Crystal Davis, Jeff Stephens, Jayme Stephens, D.J. Knight, Reid Stephens, Kaitlyn Stephens, three great grandchildren: Daniel Davis, Christopher Knight, Dylan Davis, a sister, Carolyn (Jim) Rhodes of Lamar and a brother, Felton (Shelby) Stephens of Lamar.
The Family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday, March 31 at Belk Funeral Home of LAMAR.
