Deacon Emeritus James E. Clyburn, Sr. entered into eternal Heaven on Sunday morning, March 24, 2013. He was born on January 11, 1922 in Kershaw County. He was the son of the late Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Hettie Clyburn.

James joined the military proudly in the United States Army during World War II, having received an Honorable Discharge on December 24, 1945. He retired from E. I. DuPont after 34 years of service in 1984.

He married the love of his life, the late Mrs. Lessie P. Clyburn, with whopm he shared fifty-six blissful years.

He was a member of the St. John Baptist Church (Springhill Rd.) his entire life. He served on several ministries and in other capacities in the church. He also worked faithfully with his wife at the Canty Hill Baptist Church for many years.

Special thanks to those that loved and assisted us with our father’s care. We will forever be grateful to Ms. Geraldine Adamson, a dear and special friend, who affectionately called him Papa; Ms. Debra Sanders, who warmly called him Pops; Mr. John McLane who greeted him daily as Mr. James; Dynamics Home Care; Kershaw Home Health and Hospice of Camden.

Deacon Clyburn was preceded in his passing by his parents, his wife, Mrs. Lessie P. Clyburn, a brother, Mr. Clifford Clyburn (Dorothy), sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Esther Seabrooks (Robert, Sr.).

He leaves a legacy of love: ten children: Elder James (Delores) Clyburn, Jr. of Mitchellville, MD, Alice C. Washington (David/friend) of Camden, SC, Shirley C. (Jerome) Reynolds of Camden, SC, Phoebie C. (Atty. Ralph) Warren, Sr. of Mitchville, MD, Elder Richard (Kathy) Streamwood, IL, Margaret C. (Jimmy) Lawhorn of Camden, SC, Cynthia C. (Lewis) McCaskill of Cassatt, SC, Charles (Claudette) Clyburn of Ackworth, GA, Joseph Clyburn of Charlotte, NC, Debra C. (Bill) Anderson of Hyattsville, MD; one adopted daughters, Christine (Late George Sr.) Spann of Rembert, SC; one god-daughter, Freda Edmunds of Charlotte, NC; ; one god-grandchild, Tyrisha Robinson of Camden, SC. Grandchildren: Reggie (Monica), Keisha (Andre), James Jr. (Tonya), Lathan (Ronae), Tony (Nichelle), Rick (Reginae), Steven (Ankedra), Ralph Jr.(Kim), Dionne, Kelsey, Kim(Dan), Corey, Shelly (Tom), Marcus, Eric, Charley, Ashley, Joseph Q, Aaron and Kendra. Great Grandchildren: Reiss, Zaria, Chandler, Brennan, Keilan, Darius, Chanelle, Khylil, Jordan, Xavier, Erin, Morgan, Jacob, Noah, Jonah, Madeline and Mackenzie. His brothers and sisters: Ruth Stanley, Clyde (Willie Mae) Clyburn and Wilson (Dorothy) Clyburn all of Camden, S.C.; Naomi Kershaw, Charlie Clyburn II, Dorothy Bell (Norris) Alexander all of Youngstown, Ohio; Willie Mae Allen of Mattapan, MA; Louise Webb of Atlanta, Georgia, Viva Lee (James) Baker of Brooklyn, NY and William (Beverly) Clyburn of Aiken, SC. His brothers-in-law and sisters- in- law: Luesther Turner, Johnny (Martha) Patterson, Annie Ruth Cyrus, Mae Helen Cooper all of Columbia, SC, Bennie (Hazel) Patterson and Rosa Lee Stradford all of Patterson, NJ and many other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
