A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy “Dot” Jeter Sowell, 93, of Camden, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Patterson and Rev. David Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Dot died Friday, May 5, 2017. She was born in Camden on October 14, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles F. and Annette Jeter Sowell. She graduated from Camden High School where she was an All-State player on its 1941 Women’s Basketball Class A State Championship Team. Dot attended Lander College. She worked for the City of Camden in the office at City Hall for over 30 years. Dot loved animals, working in her yard and sports, especially Clemson football and was a lifelong member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, where she lovingly taught children’s Sunday school for decades.

Dot is survived by her nephew, Mark D. Harris, III (Trudy) of Charlotte, NC; and numerous beloved relatives and friends.

Dot was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Sowell Harris; brother-in-law Mark D. Harris, Jr.; and her niece Elisabeth Harris Christmas.
