Dorothy Melton Hall passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011. Born in Kershaw County, she was the daughter and only child of the late James Thomas Melton and Maude Bradley Melton. She married Charles Richard Hall, Jr. in 1946. Mrs. Hall enjoyed her life as a homemaker and with her husband raised three children in Atlanta and Columbia where she was active in a number of social, garden, and civic organizations. She enjoyed her favorite soap operas and playing bridge with friends. She also served as a hospital volunteer with the Pink Ladies at Kershaw County Hospital for many years. She held several offices in the Parent Teacher Organization of her children’s schools and spent years on the bleachers of Little League games and high school basketball, baseball, and football games. She seldom missed one of her son’s games. She was particularly proud of her association with North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia where she taught Sunday School for more than twenty-five years. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Camden where she belonged to the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union. She was baptized as a young girl in the old spring fed baptismal pool at the Antioch Baptist Church and remained, throughout her life, a dedicated follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a true and loving friend to many.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years; a daughter, Sandra Hall Allen of Camden; two sons, Dr. Thomas Richard Hall and wife, Kaye of Lexington and William Todd Hall and wife, Shannon of Jacksonville, Florida. She leaves seven grandchildren; Dottie Allen of Manhattan, NY; Chase, Graham, Haley, and Casey Hall of Lexington; and Matthew and Luke Hall of Jacksonville.
The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Hook, Dr. Jennifer A. Feldman, Lexington Medical Center and Amedisys Home Health Services for the professional and caring services they all extended to Mrs. Hall.
