Funeral services to celebrate the life of Dr. Robert Edward Davis, Jr., 78, of Camden will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Hugh McKinney and Rev. David Weaver will officiate. The family received friends Thursday, June 16, from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Dr. Davis’s memory to Lakeview Baptist Church, 1520 Mill St. Camden, SC 29020.

Dr. Davis died Wednesday, June 15, 2011. He was born in Camden, the son of the late Robert Edward Davis, Sr. and Gertrude Eddings Davis. He was a 1950 graduate of Camden High School, an honor graduate of Furman University in 1954, and a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in 1958. Dr. Davis was board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He completed his internship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, served as base surgeon at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, TX. and completed his surgical residency at Greenville General Hospital, where he served as Chief Surgical Resident. He practiced general surgery in Camden, SC for 30 years and during that time he served a term as Chief of Staff at Kershaw County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Davis was a US Air Force veteran, a member of the American Legion, the Jack Leg Club and a former member of the Wateree Sailing Club. He was a member of the Camden Bulldog Club and served as physician for Camden Middle School and Camden High School football teams for many years.

Surviving are his daughters, Sara Davis-Hayman and her husband Russ of Johnson City, TN and Sally Davis Piccione and her husband Jeff of Camden, SC; son, Robert O. "Rod" Davis and his wife Rae of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, James Davis Hayman, Grace Elizabeth Piccione, Joseph Robert Davis and Charles Edward Davis; brother, Kenneth Eddings Davis and his wife Margie. He is also survived by his wife, Martha Arrants Davis of Lexington and numerous loving cousins and relatives.
