A memorial service to celebrate the life of Earl D. Loos, Jr., 75, of Camden, SC, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Rev. Paul Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Memorials may be made in Earl’s memory to the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, 110 E. DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Earl D. Loos, Jr. was born on July 28, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Earl D. Loos, Sr. and Helen Handy Loos. He departed this life December 3, 2015.
Earl was educated in the Harrison, Ohio public school system and graduated from William Henry Harrison High School in June 1958. He attended Union College in Barbourville, KY, where he graduated in June 1962 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and in August 1965 earned a Masters in Physical Chemistry from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
Earl began his career as a Chemical Engineer at the DuPont Textile Fibers Plant in Martinsville, VA in July 1968. He was married to Lannie P. Loos and from this marriage were born three children. In 1995 he transferred to the May Plant in Camden, SC, remarried, and continued his career until his retirement in 2003. Earl was an avid collector, Lionel train collecting was his favorite. He remained an active member of the east and west coast train collectors associations until his passing.
Earl leaves to morn his passing his beloved and devoted wife, Elaine Reeder Loos; two sons and daughters-in-law, Earl Don Loos, III (Katherine) of Springfield, VA and Karl Loos (Maria) of Rustburg, VA; daughter and sons-in-law, Melodi Westergren (John) of Fincastle, VA; two step-sons, Harrison R. and Deion R. Reeder of Wilmington, DE; seven grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Dorman of Ashville, OH; step-mother, Anna Loos of Hamilton, OH, a niece and nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends.
