Eleanor Bliler Starnes

Eleanor Bliler Starnes, 92, passed away on January 7, 2013. She was born in Bear Creek, Montana on December 5, 1920. Her given name was Eleanor Joy Bliler. She graduated from Montana State University in 1942. Eleanor served her country in the WAAC for 4 years during WWII forecasting weather. After the war, she continued her studies at Rutgers University in News Jersey. White at graduate school, she met and married Ordway Starnes. She obtained her Phd in 1949 and taught graduate level classes for the next 20 years. In 1965, she moved to Niarobi, Kenya, where she and her husband spent 20 years helping the Kenyan people transform their new independence into a strong democracy. They retired to Camden in 1979.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Ordway Lee Starnes, his wife, Ellen Holly Starnes, and their three children, Alan Ordway Starnes, Richard Lawton Starnes, and Abby Marie Starnes. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Ordway Starnes, Phd and her daughter, Libby Ilene Starnes.

This summer there will be a military service in Bozeman, Montana at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers or cards, any such memorials are requested to be donated to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton St., Camden, SC 29020.
