Eleanor Edith (Guzzi) DelPo died Saturday from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 85. Eleanor was born in Newton, MA, on January 21, 1931, to Anne (Altieri) and Joseph Guzzi. The granddaughter of Italian immigrants, she was the first person in her family to attend college, earning a BS degree in nursing (magna cum laude) from Boston University in 1955 and MS in 1958. As a nurse, Eleanor focused on children and the mentally ill. Eleanor taught nursing at several schools, including the University of South Carolina. In 1959, Eleanor married the love of her life, Raymond DelPo. Eleanor loved her native Boston, the ocean, her family, children, and good books. Eleanor leaves behind her husband and two children: a son, Luke DelPo, and his partner, Debbie Handy, of Moneta, VA; and a daughter, Amy DelPo, and her husband, Paul Means, of Denver, CO. She is also survived by three grandchildren through her daughter: Sophia Means, Charlie Means, and Lucy Means, of Denver, CO. Through her son, she leaves behind a granddaughter, Stephanie (Handy) Burton, of Glade Hill, VA. She is survived by two brothers: Arthur Guzzi of NJ and Edward Guzzi of CA. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Saturday, December 3, at 11:00 AM.
