A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth “Betty” Chmell Carlton, of Camden, will be held at 11:00 AM, January 5, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Rev. Steve Patterson will offciate. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Elizabeth “Betty” Chmell Carlton, formerly of Naples, Florida and North Baltimore, Ohio, departed this life on Friday December 21, 2012. She was the widow of Lawrence William Carlton. Born February 5, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the duaghter of Nicholas Chmell and Maria Narcofska Chmell of Russia.
Mrs. Carlton was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, active in Sunday school classes as well as volunteer work. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Stars Clover chapter No. 201; past President of the SW Florida Federated Republican Women’s Club; was active in bridge clubs, golf and bowling. She and her husband were members of the Sunshine Shufflers, a square dance club as well as the Kolonial Club, North Baltimore, Ohio. She was a talented seamstress, loved any type of home project and took pride in sharing those talents with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Carlton is survived by her two sons, William Carlton (Marquerite), of Camden, SC and Guy Carlton (Diane), of Naples, FL; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in deaith by her husband, Lawrence William Carlton, an infant son, Lawrence William Carlton, Jr.; a son, Franz Otto Carlton, and two siblings, Paula Peschkovsky Cole and Steve Peschkovsky.
