Elizabeth M. (Ballas) Nichols, age 96, of Erie and a former resident at the Regency at South Shore, died at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, Sunday, October 5, 2014. Born in McKeesport, Pa., July 2, 1918, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Tkach) Ballas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. "Jack" Nichols, who died in 1994; two sisters, Ann Churay and Mary Pastor; two brothers, John and Michael Ballas.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald P. Nichols, wife Kathleen, of Erie and Dr. James W. Nichols, wife Cathleen, of Camden, S.C.; five grandchildren, John Nichols(Kathleen), of Gardiner, Mont., Eric Nichols (Frances) of Canton, Ga., Sarah Wilson (John) of Chicago, Jeffrey Nichols( Gwendolyn) of Berlin, Germany and Laura Stallings( Brent) of Baltimore. Seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Elizabeth’s family would like to acknowledge the positive experience she had during her 15 years at the Regency at South Shore. From the many friends she made to the quality of care she received in her final years we are most grateful.
Friends are invited to call at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, 4855 W. Ridge Rd., Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St. are handling arrangements.
