Funeral services for Ella Catherine Teal, 88, of Columbia, S.C. will be held 11 o’clock, Tuesday, January 16th, in Boyce Chapel, at First Baptist Church, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia.  The family will receive friends in Ellis Hall, prior to the service, beginning at 10 o’clock.  Interment will be held at 3 o’clock at the Cassatt Baptist Church Cemetery, 2604 US-1, Cassatt, S.C. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Teal was the daughter of the late Stephen McLaughlin and Emma Raley McLaughlin of Cassatt.  She was born in the Lucknow community but grew up in the Cassatt community, where she attended and graduated from Midway School.  While in school she was a star basketball player.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia for over 50 years, a member of the Cayce-West Columbia Sertoma Club, but most of all, she dedicated her life to being a loving and caring, kind wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. The grandchildren always knew they had a “soft place to land” at their granny’s. All of the family listed below loved her and she will continue to live in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harvey Stuart Teal; daughter, Teresa Lynn Boswell (Beler); and son, Marshall Dennis Teal (Catherine) all of Columbia; six grandchildren, Bartley Allan Boswell, Catherine Kjarstie Puetz (Joe), Brooks Andrew Boswell, Kristina Teal Armstrong, Stuart Blease Teal, and Kelly Rebecca Teal; five great grandchildren, Jackson Boswell, Joseph Puetz, McLaughlin Boswell, Caed Boswell, and Gabrielle Puetz. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Teal was preceded in death by a daughter, Iris Gwendolyn Burgess (Craig) and all of her siblings: sister, Donzola Cagle; brothers, Delmar, Leroy, Charlie Lucas and Steve Travis.

The family request memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Media Ministry, PO Box 1000 Columbia, SC 29202.
