Ernest Edward Gonzales, Jr., 71, of Rembert, husband of Ruby Moore Gonzales, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at his home.

Born in FL, he was a son of the late Ernest Edward Gonzales, Sr. and the late Dorothy Edmonson Lackey. Mr. Gonzales was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Kathleen Schaubhut (Bill) of Rembert, Ernestine Hodge (John) of Sumter, Joe Gonzales of Rembert, Ellen Hickman of Sumter, and Melissa Rogers (Ernest) of Rembert; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Furlow (Richard) of GA; three step-brothers, Ricky, Butch, and Jimmy; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Presley Morris and the Rev. Buddy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ron Hodge, James Moore, Richard Branham, Thomas Foxworth, Ray Foxworth, and Mark Yarborough.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
