Everette Coates

Everette Coates died March 10, 2012 at White Oak Manor in Lancaster; SC. Born April 10, 1922, he was the second child of the late Mamie Robinson Coates and Dexter Hardin Coates. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Jewett (Mike) of Lancaster and a sister Robbie Coates Gardner, of Columbia. He was predeceased by his sister, Juanita Gordon, his wife of 68 years, Myra Huntley Coates, and a brother who died in infancy.

Everette had a long career in sales and merchandizing, beginning as a grocery store employee, first with D.E. Baxley and then with Dixie Home Stores. He was self-employed until 1980. After a few months with Springs Industries, he went to work for Belk, where he was employed for 21 years. He then worked for Cauthen Funeral Home in Kershaw and continued with Mahaffey Funeral Home until 2004.

He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Kershaw, where he taught Sunday school for several years and sang in the church choir for many years.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Shiloh Truelight Church in Mint Hill, NC. He was buried beside his wife in the church cemetery. A memorial service will be held in early April at First Baptist Church in Kershaw.
