Funeral services to celebrate the life of Sarah Frances Howard Shumate, 86, of Camden, will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Rusty Shumate and Rev. Burch Kelly will officiate. The family received friends Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Shumate’s memory to Lakeshore Drive Church of God or Southern Care Hospice.

Mrs. Shumate, widow of Howard M. Shumate, Sr. died Thursday, March 10, 2011. Born in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Simon Howard and Sarah Overcash Howard. Mrs. Shumate was a retired high school teacher with 18 years of service with the Kershaw County School System and former supervisor for Tic Tac. She was a former member of the Kershaw Country Club, former member of the Camden High Steppers and a charter member of Hallmark Christmas ornaments. Mrs. Shumate was a member of Lakeshore Drive Church of God. She was an avid deep sea fisherman.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Wayne Shumate (Kim) of Lugoff, Dennis Barry Shumate, Sr. (Peggy) of Camden and Howard Malloy Shumate, Jr. (Patsy), of Cassatt; fourteen grandchildren, Tami, Sherri, Rusty, Wesley, Kimber, Sarah, George, Lynn, Barry, Jennifer, Trey, Kevin, Donna and Woody; nineteen great grandchildren; a special niece, Sarah Nance; two nieces; two nephews and a brother, Carl Howard of Wisconsin. She was predeceased by three brothers, Edison Howard, Charles Howard and Scott Howard and sisters, Juanita Helms and Lillian Howard.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Judy and Connie of Southern Care Hospice.
