Funeral services to celebrate the life of Francis "Frank" Leroy Brown, 84, of Elgin were held Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Hermitage Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Dr. Condy Richardson and Rev. Mark Hopkins officiated. The family received friends Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mr. Brown’s memory to Hermitage Baptist Church, 814 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Camden, SC 29020 or the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 S. Fair Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Mr. Brown passed away at his home on February 17, 2011. Born in Greenville, AL, he was the youngest son of Wilkes and Mable Brown. Mr. Brown was first married to the late Doris Smith Brown and then to the late Ruby Moseley Brown. After graduating high school in 1944, Frank served in World War II and the Korean War. He often told true stories of history through his own eyes to his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion and The National Trust for Historic Preservation. Mr. Brown was a barber and a barber and security guard for twenty three years at Camden Military Academy. He was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, James Peters and his wife Brenda, Tommy Peters and his wife Diane, Judy Hall and her husband Norman, Ann Carraway and Rhonda Phillips; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter and older brothers, James and Wyman Brown. He was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Sue Smith.
