Rev. George Frank Vinson, Sr. age 81 of Cornelius, NC died Wednesday September 29, 2010 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. Born November 25, 1928 in Lancaster County SC, he was a son of the late William Perry Vinson and Nannie Bradley Vinson.

He attended Camden City School in Camden SC, North Greenville Jr. College, Wingate College and graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth TX with a diploma in Theology. While in Texas he travelled with the Texas Alcoholic and Narcotics Education program speaking in churches throughout Texas and surrounding states.

Rev. Vinson served in Baptist churches throughout South Carolina before entering seminary. After graduation he accepted the call to the First Baptist Church of Davidson in Davidson, NC where he pastored for 37 years and was an active member of the Cornelius and Davidson community for 45 years.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, North Campus, 2350 Odell School Road, Charlotte, NC. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 at Northlake Memorial Gardens, Huntersville, NC.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 at the church.

He leaves his wife and sweetheart of 61 years, Aleen Smith Vinson: son, George Frank Vinson, Jr; daughters, Lynn Britt and husband Michael, Dianne Godbey, Brenda Elwood and husband Elbert, Valerie Lemmond and husband Bill, Wendy Catalani and husband Paul to cherish his memory. Not only was he a respected father but also a loving grandfather and great grandfather to grandchildren, Codey and Corey Elwood, Keely Nocifora, Shane Truesdale,  Summer Britt, and Jaclyn and Hunter Lemmond; great grandchildren Maddox and Wyatt Elwood, Lyric Nocifora and Katy Truesdale; brother, David Vinson; sisters, Ruth Graham, Mary Nelson, Magdalene Twitty, Rachel Clyburn, Esther Deese and Martha Mabry.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Levine Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078,  Hospice of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street Suite 203 Davidson, NC 28036 or Hickory Grove Baptist Church North Campus, 2350 Odell School Road Charlotte, NC 28269.
