Born May 13, 1950; Hillary Rogers Brooks, of Camden, SC, died on February 6, 2012, from complications relating to her long battle with cancer. Growing up in Northern Virginia, with her parents; Priscilla Blackett Rogers and the late Robert Edmund Rogers, she graduated from The Madeira School in 1968. She gained her undergraduate degree from Randolph Macon Women’s College earning a BA degree in Religion in 1972.
Hillary and her husband of 29 years, Robert Chappell Brooks, of Columbia, SC, were long time Camden residents. Hillary was at her Camden, S.C. home at the time of her death.
A life-long horse woman, Hillary competed in horse shows across the country on the A-circuit, both as a junior and as an amateur. Probably her most beloved horse was Brooks Brothers, with whom she won many championships in the Amateur Owner division. An avid foxhunter, she earned her colors as a junior with the Fairfax Hunt and as an adult with the Camden Hunt.
When health issues prevented her from continuing to ride, she learned how to run field trial dogs and began competing and breeding champion retrievers. She travelled the United States with her dogs, qualifying several times for the Nationals.
Hillary was involved in various community projects. Closest to her heart, was her participation in the Bible Study Group at Grace Episcopal Church.
Besides riding, Hillary enjoyed traveling and sailing. She frequently combined the two by planning and participating in bare-boat charters worldwide with her family.
Hillary is survived by her husband, Robert Brooks; her mother, Pat Rogers; her sister, Penny Denegre and her niece, Alden Denegre.
