A funeral service to honor the life of Hugh F. “Dee” Dougherty, Jr., will be held at 3:00 PM, today, February 12, 2016 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Rev. Dr. Don McManus and Rev. Rus McDonald will officiate. Burial will follow in Cassatt Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00-6:30 PM, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Dee’s memory to Kershaw County Health Hospice, 124 Battleship Road, Camden, SC 29020 or the charity of one’s choice.

Dee died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Brewer, ME, the son of the late Hugh Francis Dougherty, Sr. and Margaret Lintott Dougherty. Dee was in the US Navy and retired from DuPont. Dee was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served on numerous committees, sang in the choir and was also a member of the American Legion, Leroy Belk Post 17. He enjoyed camping and traveling and visiting his home state of Maine. Those who knew Dee remember his gentle, calm, caring nature and how he freely shared his gift of being able to fix or build just about anything.

Dee is survived by his wife of 42 years, Zulene Holland Dougherty; children, Robert Joseph “Shorty” Dougherty (Lynne) of Hodges, SC, Margaret Dougherty Eller (Joe) of Lugoff, SC, Doris Hughes Robinson (James) of Savannah, GA, Timothy Francis Dougherty of Bishopville, SC and step-daughter, Rengy Cobb Marshall (Ted) of Camden, SC; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Dougherty Brimmer of Brewer, ME; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dee was predeceased by his son, Daniel Hugh Dougherty and his brother, William Lintott Dougherty.
