Mrs. Virginia Kathleen Jane (Frisch) Nelson of Camden, SC, formerly of The Villages, FL, and of Pittsburgh, PA, was born August 3, 1924 and passed away on March 4, 2017. She was happily married for 68 years to Robert James Nelson, who she deeply missed after he passed away in 2012.
Jane was the daughter of the late Oscar E. Frisch and Emma Hanna Frisch. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020.Jane had an ability to gather friends of all ages and to stay in touch with them over the years. Once you were Jane’s friend, you were a friend for life. She spent her early married years as a new bride in Washington DC before moving back to Pittsburgh when Bob returned from WWII. After raising her 3 children in OH and PA, she returned to work as a teachers’ aide. She enjoyed retirement with friends and activities in The Villages, FL until moving to Camden, SC to be closer to family. In Camden she made many new friends and was able to cheer her grandsons on at baseball games. She loved playing cards—especially pinochle and euchre, but given a chance to play any card game, she was ready. She devoured books and also enjoyed playing “pickleball” in retirement and was excited to learn this week that her daughter was joining such a group in Ohio. Her pies and baked goods will be missed. She is the reason her family came to realize that the purpose of the meal is to get to dessert. Jane always “stood her ground” and didn’t allow anyone to push her around, but her heart was soft and she loved her family, friends, all children, especially babies, and baby dolls.
Jane is survived by her 3 children and their spouses who will continue to enjoy the memories she has left them: Janet Schoolcraft (Alan) of Beavercreek, OH, Barry Nelson (Camille) of Milton, DE and Brian Nelson (Torill) of Camden, SC. She also leaves her love to 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her brother Bill Frisch, her sister, Bea Fuls, nieces, nephews, and her cat, Kit-Kat. She was so proud of her family.
T he family is grateful for the help and care provided by Rolf and Astrid Pedersen, the hospice nurses and aides, her medical care providers, Melissa Rone, who went above and beyond to make sure her hair was always presentable and especially her friend and caretaker, Estelle Douglas. You all have a special place in our hearts.
