Funeral services celebrating the life of Janie Blackwell Hancock, 68, of Camden, will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Reverend Dr. William F. Summers will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at John Knox Hall. The family suggests that memorials may be made in Mrs. Hancock’s memory to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 502 DeKalb Street, Camden, SC, 29020 or the Hospital Foundation to Advanced Health Care in Kershaw County, PO Box 7003, Camden, SC, 29020.
Mrs. Hancock died Friday, December 31, 2010 after her 11 month battle with ALS. Born in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late William “Bill” Martin and Cesha Englander “Tommie” Blackwell. Mrs. Hancock was a graduate of USC with a B. S. Degree in Business and a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where she was a former Administrative Assistant. A proud Master Gardner, she enjoyed working with flowers and plants, helping others with their plants and was a member of King Haigler Garden Club. Mrs. Hancock loved her Tuesday night Bible Study Group. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed teaching her granddaughters how to sew.
Surviving are her husband, Terry Hancock; 2 sons, Bill (Lori) Hancock of Columbia and Brian (Jennifer) Hancock of Simpsonville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane, Grace Manning, Terry Jonathan (“T.J.”) and Jacob Alexander.
