Jessie Mae Catoe Drakeford

Funeral service for Jessie Mae Catoe Drakeford, 70, of 1546 Kershaw Hwy. in Camden will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2011, 3:00 P.M. at Flat Rock Bethlehem Baptist Church with burial in Parker Baptist Church cemetery. Wake service is Monday, July 11th, 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M at Collins Chapel. Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Camden, SC, on December 23, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Reverend Henry and Carrie Catoe of Camden. Mrs. Drakeford departed this life on Thursday, July 7, 2011.

After graduating from Jackson High School in Camden, she furthered her education at Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Drakeford was employed as an Elementary School Teacher for 43 years in the Kershaw County Public School District. She was a people’s person but children were her passion. Jessie loved and was loved by many whose lives she touched throughout her career and life.

Mrs. Drakeford was a dedicated member of Flat Rock Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her demise. She served as President of the Missionary Board, Children’s Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk and sang in the Adult Choir.

She was married to Prophet William Drakeford of Camden.

Surviving are: her husband, Prophet William Drakefrod of Camden; two sons, Mark Anthony (Pamela) Drakeford of Charlotte, NC and Terril JeVar Drakeford of Rock Hill, SC; one brother, W. Lee (Stephanie) Catoe of Columbia, SC; seven sisters, Mattie (Clarence) Allen, Clemijene (Willie) Alexander and Elizabeth Catoe Kirkland all of Jacksonville, FL, Henrietta (Benjamin) Jiles of Lakeland, FL, Sarah (Nathan) Thomas of Tobyhanna, PA, Florine Simmons of Mt. Vernon, NY and Marian (Roger) Fletcher of Westville, SC; one grandson, Quincy Allen Drakeford of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
