Joanne Wise died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family after a courageous, hard-fought battle against esophageal cancer on July 18, 2013 in Camden, South Carolina.

Beloved wife of 46 years and best friend to Eugene Patrick Wise and newly appointed guardian angel to her grandchildren Tyler, Joseph, Jackson, Kiley, Matthew, Charlotte and her daughters, Stacey (Jim) Jennings, Stephanie (Jim) Kozak and Jeannine Wise. Also, Joanne is survived by her sisters, Pat, Linda, Cindy and Leslie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence & George Madison and her sister, Becky.

Joanne was renowned for her passions of cooking, needle pointing and reading. Her needlepoint was a labor of love and her cannoli and spaghetti sauce recipes legend among friends and family. Joanne’s amazing sense of humor and quick-wit was a delight to those who knew her. She was never far from a crossword puzzle and was brilliant in solving them.

What set Joanne apart from the rest was her ability to quickly turn new acquaintances into cherished, close friends who adored her. She had many adventures with her girlfriends and prized her annual girl’s trip with her lifelong Trenton, Michigan friends.

Joanne would count being a grandparent among her most important roles in life and gained such joy from spending time with her grandchildren.

Gene and Joanne moved to Camden eleven years ago and were quickly welcomed into the community.

From the moment of her diagnosis, Joanne was pampered like a princess by her husband and best friend, Gene. The family wishes to thank those who cared devotedly for Joanne through her illness, most notably, her Chemo-Sabe’s and her wonderful medical care by Dr. Leland McElveen and staff and Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family and will live in the hearts of many.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Joanne at Out Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Camden, SC on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 12:00 Noon. Father Francis Travis will officiate. The rosary will be recited Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 6:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, with visitation following. A separate service will be held in Trenton, Michigan at a later date.
