Benny Joe Benton, 73, of Lugoff, SC, died Monday, February 16, 2015. He was born in Winnsboro, SC, the son of the late J. C. Benton and Mary Drawdy Benton. Joe was in the US Army and played in the 291 First Army Band. He completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA, 12th Military, was assigned to Germany and transferred to 9th Artillery, but was later transferred to the 3rd division band while in Germany. Upon return back to the US, Joe was assigned to 291 Army Band, was honorably discharged from the Army, but was called back because of the Cuban Crisis. Joe was a Sea Captain and delivered boats all across the US. Upon his retirement, he lived on a boat in the Florida Keys.

Joe Benton is survived by his son, Brianna Benton and Michael Benton, both of Oklahoma and Robert Benton of Michigan, but is now in China teaching music; and granddaughter, Brianna Elizabeth Benton.

Memorials may be made in Joe’s memory to Kershaw County Health Hospice, 124 Battleship Road, Camden, SC 29020.
