John Lewis Cook

John Lewis Cook was born August 29, 1935 in Blythewood, SC. He was one of 11 children of the late Henry Tally Cook and Lenora Jeffers Cook. John was affectionately known as "Snook." He passed into eternal life on June 2, 2012 at the age of 76.

John was a loving brother and devoted husband to his wife of over 40 years, Betty Langley Cook. He enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and making others laugh. John was a heavy equipment operator at Lanier Construction Company and was a member of Union Baptist Church, Elgin, SC.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Ridgeway; brothers, Paul Cook of Arkansas, Harold "Buddy" Cook of North Carolina and Laverne Cook of Columbia; sister, Doris C. Stockman of Elgin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Barbara Vara; brother-in-law Jay Langley and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers Henry Cook, Jr., Osmond Cook and Richard Cook; sisters, Fannie Patterson, Marlene Hunley and Mary Roush.

A memorial service was held 3:00 pm Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Harmony Baptist Church, Elgin, SC.
