Mr. Joseph “Joe” Lee O’Quinn, 85, of Sanford, N.C., died of congestive heart failure on Monday, May 28, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. O’Quinn was born in Lee County, N.C., on June 16, 1926, to the late Neil Alexander O’Quinn and Lola Stone O’Quinn.  He worked at CAMCO, Line Construction and Central Electric Membership Corporation for a total of over 50 years and retired as a line supervisor.  He was a deacon in his church, Boy Scout leader and Royal Ranger Ambassador.  He loved dirt track racing at the Sanford Race Track and drag racing at the Sanford Drag Strip where he drove the first rail dragster.  He was U.S. Navy Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II in the Pacific.  He was preceded in death by a son, Lynwood Neil O’Quinn; a great-granddaughter, Haley Nicole O’Quinn; one brother and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Annie Lou Spivey O’Quinn; a daughter, Jo Anne O’Quinn Westbury and husband Donald Edward “Ed” Westbury of Camden, S.C.; a son, Bruce Clay O’Quinn and wife Pat of Sanford, N.C.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral will be Friday,

June 1, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3606 Wicker Street, Sanford, N.C. with Rev. Greg Long officiating.  Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.
