A graveside funeral service to celebrate the life of Joyce Gibbs Watkins was held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 17, 2016 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. John Hallman officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Joyce passed away suddenly at home on October 14th. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Franklin Gibbs and Hester Ward Gibbs. Joyce was born in Auburndale, FL but grew up in Fort Myers, FL. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA one year before entering the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing when she received her BS degree in Nursing. It was there that she met her husband of 57 years, Dr. W. Curtis Watkins. She later received her Master of Nursing Degree from the University of South Carolina and was employed by DHEC in public health administration. Joyce was an active worker in her church, Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and member of The Session. She was a longtime volunteer at the Community Medical Clinic.

Joyce is survived by her husband Dr. W. Curtis Watkins; daughter, Kathleen Tallis (Frank); son, William “Billy” Watkins Jr. (Kathryn); 6 grandchildren, Margaret Pate White, Derek White, Meredith White, William Curtis Watkins III, Elizabeth Watkins and Julia Daniels; and her brother, Gary Gibbs.

Joyce was predeceased by her daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Watkins and her brother, Gene Gibbs.
