Funeral service for Lawton Melvin Truesdale, 92, will be held at noon today, Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.  The Rev. Joe Stines will officiate.  The family will receive friends today 10:30 a.m. until noon prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Truesdale passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014.  Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Melvin James and Docia Truesdale.  He served in the United States Navy during WWII and retired from the Kershaw County Assessor’s Office.  He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and gardening.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Virginia Shiver Truesdale; children, James Truesdale (Nancy) of Camden, Ronger Truesdale (Linda) of Camden, Iva Baker of Bishopville and Jody Truesdale (Danielle) of Camden; sister, Martha Marsh; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by sisters, Vira Venturella and Mary Brown; brothers, Lloyd Truesdale, Marion Truesdale and Billy Truesdale; and son-in-law, Sidney Baker.
